On November 29, the 2024 International Conference on Human Factors Engineering and Intelligent System Interaction (hereinafter referred to as the Conference) was held in Shenzhen. Multiple academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, leaders or representatives from the International Ergonomics Association (hereinafter referred to as IEA) and several overseas ergonomics societies and organizations, council members of the Chinese Ergonomics Society, renowned experts in the field of human factors engineering, and others gathered together to discuss topics such as advancing the development of human factors engineering and intelligent system interaction and improving the level of intelligent manufacturing and industrialization, thereby helping to cultivate new quality productive forces and high-quality economic development.

Gu Shengzu, Vice Chairman of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Zhao Qinping, former Vice Minister of Education and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; and Zheng Li, Vice President of Tsinghua University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.
Li Deren, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Honorary Chair of the Conference; Pu Muming, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Tan Jianrong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Chen Shanguang, Academician of the International Academy of Astronautics, Director of the National Key Laboratory of Human Factors Engineering, and Chair of the Conference; Chen Yong, Chief Engineer of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. and National Outstanding Engineer; Wang Jun, Chief Scientist of CRRC Group and National Outstanding Engineer; as well as former IEA Presidents Wang Mingyang and José Orlando Gomes, current President Andrew Thatcher, and other renowned experts and scholars from home and abroad delivered keynote reports at the conference on topics including human factors engineering in major engineering projects, intelligent equipment, smart living, and disciplinary development. Academicians Yu Qifeng, Wang Songling, and Cao Jinbin of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Academician Yang Hong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, among others, attended the conference.
Human factors engineering is a comprehensive interdisciplinary field that emerged with industrialization and has continued to develop with scientific and technological progress and the improvement of industrialization levels. It comprehensively applies research methods and approaches from multiple disciplines such as physiology, psychology, anthropometry, biomechanics, computer science, and systems science, and is dedicated to studying the interrelationships and influences between humans and other elements of systems, ultimately enabling systems to achieve the goals of safety, efficiency, and user-friendliness.
Over the past 20 years, supported by the national manned space engineering program and major national plans and special projects such as large aircraft, high-speed rail, and nuclear power plants, China has achieved a series of original theoretical and technological results in human factors engineering research and application.
As early as 2016, the National Key Laboratory of Human Factors Engineering of the China Astronaut Research and Training Center initiated and organized the China Human Factors Engineering Summit Forum, which has since been held seven times in Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Changsha, Shanghai, and other places, and has become a comprehensive academic exchange platform with considerable influence in the industry and a non-profit nature. On the evening of the 28th, as a highlight of this conference, the China Human Factors Engineering Development Forum was held again as a continuation of the previous forums, continuing to provide representatives from government, academia, and industry with a high-level dialogue platform for basic research, achievement transformation, and innovative product design in human factors engineering, integrating human factors engineering with economic and social development in a broader scope, at a higher level, and to a deeper degree, and helping China move toward becoming a manufacturing powerhouse.
This was the first international academic conference in the field of human factors engineering led by Chinese scholars to be held in China, systematically showcasing to international peers China's latest achievements in human factors engineering and intelligent system interaction, while also deepening our understanding of international human factors development trends and future directions through exchanges. The conference was highly praised by participating scholars, and its successful convening is of far-reaching significance for promoting the development of theories, methods, and applications in the discipline of human factors engineering.
The conference was hosted by Tsinghua University and organized by the National Key Laboratory of Human Factors Engineering and other units, and co-organized by the Chinese Ergonomics Society, the Intelligent Human-Machine Interaction Expert Committee of the Chinese Institute of Electronics, the Aerospace Medical Engineering and Space Biology Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Astronautics, the Beijing Institute of Human Factors Engineering and Technology, and other units.
