The Information Office of the Gansu Provincial People's Government held a press conference on the 27th, introducing that the province is comprehensively accelerating the construction of water conservancy infrastructure in the Yellow River Basin. Since 2019, a total of 72.7 billion yuan in fixed asset investment in water conservancy has been completed in the Yellow River Basin, effectively ensuring the continuous improvement of the ecological environment and high-quality economic and social development in the Yellow River Basin.

Gansu is located in the upper reaches of the Yellow River Basin and occupies an important position in the strategy for ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. It is an important water conservation area in the Yellow River Basin, a demonstration area for the protection and promotion of Yellow River culture, and a pilot area for the construction of an ecological economic belt, shouldering the important tasks of ecological restoration, soil and water conservation, and pollution prevention and control in the upper reaches of the Yellow River.
Zeng Youxiao, Deputy Director of the Gansu Provincial Department of Water Resources, introduced at the press conference that at present, major water supply projects such as the main project of Phase II of the Taohui Water Supply Project, the urban and rural water supply supporting Phase II of the Taohui Water Supply Project, the water supply project for ecological migration and poverty alleviation and development in central Gansu, the quality improvement and efficiency enhancement project of Phase II of the Jingdian Project, and the Taohui-Jihe Water Transfer Project have been completed and put into operation. Key projects such as the Quxi Reservoir and Xinji Reservoir have started construction. Preliminary demonstration of projects such as the Bailongjiang Water Diversion Project, the Hexi Corridor Water Resources Allocation Project, and the water source replacement project for water supply security and ecological protection in Linxia Prefecture is being accelerated.
The quality improvement and efficiency enhancement project of Phase II of the Gansu Jingdian Project was completed and began supplying water in early November this year. The completion and operation of this project will increase water supply capacity by 87 million cubic meters, further improve the level of agricultural irrigation and ecological water supply security, and play an irreplaceable important role in promoting the efficient use of water resources, the safe operation of the engineering system, the sustained and healthy development of the irrigation district economy, and the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin and the Shiyang River Basin.
Through this project, Yellow River water travels for 60 hours and crosses a distance of more than 200 kilometers to flow into Minqin County, Wuwei City, Gansu Province, nourishing the oasis.
Su Guobo, Deputy Mayor of Wuwei City, said that Wuwei is an area where both resource-based and engineering-related water shortages coexist, and water is the biggest constraint on the high-quality economic and social development of Wuwei. The city has adhered to integrated efforts in storage projects, key irrigation district projects, and water network construction, striving to solve the problem of the uneven temporal and spatial distribution of water resources. Next, the city will continue to implement water resource allocation projects such as water system connectivity, storage ponds, and reservoir reinforcement and renovation, and promote the construction of a water network pattern featuring "two horizontals and three verticals, nine rivers connected, coordinated operation of reservoirs and ponds, and mutual supplementation of multiple sources."
