On November 22-24, the "First Academic Conference on Intelligent and Green Bridge Construction" and the "First Academic Conference on Intelligent Construction and Maintenance of Geotechnical and Tunnel Engineering in Extreme Environments" were held in Chengdu. Centered on national strategic needs such as the "Transportation Powerhouse" strategy and the "Dual Carbon" goals, and themed "Intelligent Construction, Green Construction, and Smart Operation and Maintenance," the conference focused on the latest advances in bridge, tunnel, and geotechnical engineering. It aimed to cultivate major original technologies, overcome technical challenges in major engineering construction, discuss new theories, methods, technologies, products, and materials in the fields of intelligent and green construction, build industry consensus, promote forward-looking, pioneering, and exploratory leading-edge technology research, and strengthen the integration of industry, academia, research, and application.
Conference venue
The conference was guided by the Civil, Hydraulic, and Architectural Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and jointly hosted by Southwest Jiaotong University, the National Key Laboratory of Intelligent and Green Bridge Construction, and the National Key Laboratory of Intelligent Construction and Maintenance of Geotechnical and Tunnel Engineering in Extreme Environments. Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Nie Jianguo and Zhu Hehua served as chairs of the academic committee, and 40 academicians of the two national academies and foreign academicians, along with more than 500 renowned industry experts, attended the conference.
Yang Dan, Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, pointed out that the convening of this conference not only brings together wisdom from all parties to discuss and promote the intelligent and green transformation of bridge construction and tunnel construction and maintenance, but also contributes to the construction and development of bridge and tunnel engineering in the province and across the country. He expressed the hope of firmly seizing the opportunities of the new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, focusing on the frontier interdisciplinary technologies of artificial intelligence and engineering construction, and driving technological innovation in the field of bridge and tunnel construction. In addition, through academic exchanges, efforts should actively explore coordinated development paths for bridge and tunnel construction and ecological environmental protection, strengthen exchanges and cooperation among universities, research institutions, enterprises, and public institutions, share resources, complement advantages, and jointly promote industry progress.
Nie Jianguo, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Civil, Hydraulic, and Architectural Engineering Division of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, noted that China's civil engineering construction is currently at a critical stage of development and transformation. As key controlling nodes in infrastructure, bridges, tunnels, and geotechnical engineering play an important role in promoting regional economies, improving transportation networks, and enhancing people's quality of life, and their intelligent, green, and sustainable construction is the key to promoting the high-quality development of China's civil engineering. In his view, with the theme of "Intelligent Construction, Green Construction, and Smart Operation and Maintenance," this conference, through high-quality academic reports, deeply explores the frontier dynamics and application prospects of intelligent construction and green development in bridge, tunnel, and geotechnical engineering, and promotes high-quality development through sustained technological innovation, which is most timely.
Yan Xuedong, President of Southwest Jiaotong University, expressed the hope of taking this conference as an opportunity to further strengthen interdisciplinary and cross-field in-depth cooperation among universities, research institutions, and industry enterprises, increase investment in and attention to frontier technology research and development, continuously advance the integration of industry and education, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, pursue innovation through intelligence and progress through innovation, and properly answer the question of the era: "What should wisdom do to empower the industry?"
As an important exchange platform reflecting major engineering construction and technological innovation in China and internationally, this conference is a major event bringing together academicians, senior experts, and young and middle-aged scholars in the infrastructure field. The successful holding of the conference promoted exchanges and cooperation among workers in the bridge, tunnel, and geotechnical fields, accelerated the achievement of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-strengthening, enhanced innovation capacity in infrastructure-related fields with bridges and tunnels as the backbone, and focused on strengthening universities' targeted and organized talent cultivation.
