At the event, Sun Xianzhong, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region People's Congress and secretary of the Party Committee of Tibet University, said in his speech that the Education City Campus construction project of Tibet University is a major foundational project for advancing the building of an education powerhouse and promoting the high-quality development of higher education in Tibet. It is an important supporting project for Tibet University to improve its schooling conditions, expand its schooling space, enhance its schooling level, give play to the leading role of higher education, and better serve Tibet's long-term stability and high-quality development. The university will adhere to high-starting-point planning, high-level design, and high-standard construction, firmly establish a university-wide "one chessboard" mindset, build a high-quality project, safe project, clean project, and premium project that can stand the test of history, accelerate the building of a distinctly characterized "Double First-Class" university, and strive to inject new momentum into Tibet's "Four Creations" and "Four Leads."
Wang Qiang, deputy secretary of the Lhasa Municipal Party Committee and mayor, delivered a congratulatory message saying that Lhasa will continue to pay close attention to and vigorously support the construction and development of Tibet University, track and serve the project construction throughout the entire process, provide all-round support and full-factor guarantees, and make every effort to serve as a strong backing for the university's development.
It is understood that the Education City Campus construction project of Tibet University covers a total area of about 1,123 mu and is planned to be implemented in two phases. Phase I covers 320 mu, obtained approval of the feasibility study report in November 2023, obtained approval of the preliminary design report and budget estimate in August 2024, and is planned to be completed and put into use in 2027; Phase II covers 803 mu and is planned to be implemented during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period. After completion, it will provide a suitable working, studying, and living space for 7 colleges and nearly 10,000 teachers and students, and will more powerfully promote the university's "Double First-Class" construction and high-quality connotative development.
