On November 2, the joint intake of the Xinjiang Dashixia Water Conservancy Hub Project, constructed by China Energy Engineering Corporation Gezhouba Municipal Company, completed the concrete pouring of its main structure, successfully achieving full-line capping and laying a solid foundation for the project's impoundment on schedule.
At 17:00 that afternoon, as the last truckload of concrete was precisely placed horizontally into the formwork by a crawler-type concrete placer, twenty on-site workers cooperated closely, with concrete vibration, leveling, and troweling and polishing carried out in an orderly manner; the tower crane swung its jib continuously to lift and transport insulation covering materials, presenting a busy construction scene on site.
The joint intake of the Xinjiang Dashixia Water Conservancy Hub Project consists of the medium-hole flood discharge and sediment flushing tunnel intake tower, the deep-hole sediment flushing and emptying tunnel intake tower, and the power station intake tower, arranged in a straight line in plan and adopting a design scheme of multi-level water intake with stoplog gates. The intake towers are 91 meters high, with a main structure concrete volume of 233,000 cubic meters and 12,000 tons of reinforcing steel fabrication and installation.
During the construction of the joint intake, the project department team took the initiative and organized scientifically, implementing systems such as work-zone responsibility and daily production meetings, and firmly grasping the implementation of responsibilities. They strictly controlled the quality of each construction stage and built a high-quality project with an attitude of striving for excellence. They paid close attention to and refined safety production, focusing on safety management of special equipment operation, lifting operations, and cross operations to ensure safe and orderly on-site production.
Gao Jianfu, chief engineer of the Xinjiang Dashixia Section II Project Department of China Energy Engineering Corporation Gezhouba Group, said: "On May 12, 2022, we first applied our hydraulic intelligent construction system, also the first application of this innovative technology in the water conservancy and hydropower industry. This technology is the first of its kind in national water conservancy and hydropower projects and has provided a strong guarantee for our project progress and safety. It has also laid a solid foundation for today's full-line capping of the joint intake towers, as well as for our impoundment in 2025 and the first two units generating power in July 2026."
Vigorously carrying out technological innovation, the team developed a long-stroke, large-tonnage intelligent "tower builder" tailored to the characteristics and structure of the joint intake, a first in water conservancy and hydropower engineering construction, greatly improving construction efficiency. Adhering to green and environmental protection, they adopted a new type of light steel stainless formwork plus C-shaped light steel keel as the formwork supporting system, effectively contributing to energy conservation and emission reduction. Concrete pouring for the main structure of the joint intake began on January 12, 2022, and construction lasted 1,026 days, successfully completing the task of capping the main structure.
The Xinjiang Dashixia Water Conservancy Hub Project is one of the 172 major water conservancy projects for water conservation and supply approved by the State Council for implementation. It undertakes the peak-shaving task for the power systems of the four prefectures in southern Xinjiang and also serves comprehensive functions such as irrigation and flood control. After completion, the project's multi-year average power generation will reach 1.893 billion kWh, which will help improve the ecological environment of the Tarim River Basin, alleviate spring drought and water shortages in more than 8 million mu of farmland in the Aksu River irrigation district, raise the irrigation guarantee rate of the irrigation district, promote the social and economic development of the Aksu region and the entire southern Xinjiang, and support the achievement of the 3060 carbon neutrality and carbon peak goals.
