Reporters learned from Tibet Kaifa Investment Group that at 12:45 on October 31, the world's first ultra-high-altitude smart string grid-forming solar-storage station—the 30 MW (with energy storage) photovoltaic power project in Gerze County, Ngari Prefecture, invested by Tibet Kaifa Investment Group and constructed by the joint project department of PowerChina Kunming Engineering Corporation and PowerChina Construction Company—was successfully connected to the grid. At present, all unit parameters are excellent, and the main and auxiliary equipment are operating stably.

The smooth completion and successful power transmission of the project mark a major breakthrough for new energy technology in ultra-high-altitude areas. It will provide a stable and reliable clean energy supply for the local area and surrounding regions, reduce the consumption of fossil resources and pollution from harmful gases, strongly promote local economic and social development, and improve residents' living conditions.

It is understood that the project is located in Rima Village, Gerze County, Ngari Prefecture, at an altitude of 4,700 meters, covering an area of 550 mu. Its total installed rated capacity is 30 MW, including 10 PV array blocks, a 110 kV booster station, and a 6 MW/24 MWh chemical energy storage station.

During this period, the project team overcame numerous harsh natural conditions and construction difficulties, including the 4,700-meter altitude, long-term frigid environment, strong-wind construction, and long-distance transportation. It actively coordinated high-quality resources to ensure the scheduling and supply of the project's PV modules, effectively guaranteeing on-site installation needs. To improve the station's power generation efficiency, the project innovatively adopted a grid-forming energy storage system and 695 Wp bifacial N-type PV modules, which can autonomously adjust voltage and frequency. This enables the station to respond quickly and maintain stable operation of the local grid under grid faults or weak-grid conditions, giving new energy the same "stability" characteristics as traditional generators. At the same time, it can adapt to different grid environments and application scenarios, with strong adaptability and flexibility.

According to estimates, after the project is completed, its average annual on-grid electricity will be 53.0324 million kWh. It is expected to save about 15,900 tons of standard coal per year and correspondingly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 37,800 tons. It will greatly alleviate the tight power supply situation in Ngari Prefecture and ensure the safety of civil and industrial electricity use near Gerze County. The project has also become a successful model for the local development of green power using abundant solar thermal resources, providing reliable power support for local social and economic development.
