Recently, the shield machine No. 16147-W3, independently developed and manufactured by CCCC Tianhe for the Nanjing Metro Line 11 project, successfully crossed the pile foundations of the Qili River and Wanshou Road No. 1 Bridge.

16147-W3 is an earth pressure balance shield machine with an excavation diameter of 6.84 meters. The section has a total length of 1,107 meters, and the strata crossed are mainly silty clay and silty sand. Along the route, it passes through a series of risk sources including the PTC pipe pile area, Wanshou Road Bridge, and the Qili River, among which undercrossing the Qili River risk source is the most difficult of all.

The Qili River is an important water system in Nanjing, with a channel width of about 120 meters and a minimum spacing of about 13 meters between the riverbed and the tunnel; its downstream flows into the Yangtze River. The shield machine undercrossed the Qili River during the flood season, when the river water level rose and changed considerably. The tunnel passes alongside the pile foundations of Wanshou Road No. 1 Bridge, with a minimum horizontal clear distance of 7.03 meters between the tunnel structure and the pile foundations.

During the crossing, maintenance personnel from the Technical Service Department closely monitored all parameters of the shield machine to ensure its stable operation and prevent adverse effects on the riverbed. Through in-depth cooperation and joint efforts with the construction unit, the shield machine successfully crossed the Qili River without causing any damage to the surrounding environment or the river channel.

The successful crossing of the Qili River by the shield machine is an important milestone in the construction of this project.
