On September 9, the Xiawan No. 2 Tunnel of the Quzhou-Lishui Railway, invested in and constructed by Zhejiang Communications Group, was successfully holed through. This created favorable conditions for the Jinhua-Wenzhou freight line relocation project to open on schedule and accelerated the project's completion and opening to traffic.

The Jinhua-Wenzhou freight line relocation project is a key project of the entire Quzhou-Lishui Railway line and is directly related to the opening timetable of the main line, while the holing-through of Xiawan No. 2 Tunnel is a necessary prerequisite for realizing the Jinhua-Wenzhou relocation project. The Xiawan No. 2 Tunnel holed through this time has a total length of 469.34 meters and a minimum burial depth of 7 meters. It is located in a shallow-buried area, and the surrounding rock is broken and fragile. Above the tunnel, a provincial natural gas pipeline with a diameter of 800 millimeters crosses diagonally, and the clear distance between the tunnel crown and the bottom of the pipeline is only 13 meters. In addition, the left side of the tunnel is adjacent to the existing Jinhua-Wenzhou freight line, with a horizontal distance of 28 meters. Ensuring the safe operation of the natural gas pipeline and the existing line was the core task during tunnel construction.

The Quzhou-Lishui Railway Construction Command, together with the participating units, continuously optimized construction organization, refined the breakdown of objectives, strengthened the management of construction adjacent to operating lines, and established a dedicated relocation promotion team, overcoming a series of difficulties in the construction of Xiawan No. 2 Tunnel, including complex geological conditions, dangerous working environment, great construction difficulty, and high safety risks. The command strictly required the participating units to follow the construction principles of "advance pipe forepoling, strict grouting, short excavation, strong support, early closure, and frequent measurement," adopt controlled blasting and mechanical excavation, dynamically adjust the blasting design, and install an automatic monitoring and alarm system to monitor blasting vibration velocity. Ultimately, the natural gas pipeline was passed safely and smoothly, achieving the "three safeties" of the construction process, the natural gas pipeline, and the operation of the existing line.

As a key project in the construction of Zhejiang's "Grand Garden" transportation corridor, the Quzhou-Lishui Railway mainly undertakes passenger and freight transport tasks between Central China and Southwest China and the Lishui and Wenzhou areas via Quzhou. Next, the command will continue to integrate resources across the entire line, aim to create a safe century demonstration project, empower project construction through Party building leadership, scientific and technological innovation, and meritorious service competitions, optimize construction plans, monitor safety risks, and ensure that the project advances toward the goal of early opening with the fastest speed and the highest quality.
