On September 3, the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Conference and Science and Technology Award Ceremony was held in Changsha. Shen Xiaoming, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mao Weiming, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor; and Mao Wanchun, Chairman of the Provincial CPPCC, attended the first meeting on the morning of that day. At the meeting, the "Decision on the 2022-2023 Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Awards" was read out, and CRCHI's "Key Technologies and Applications of Super-Large-Diameter Shield Tunneling Machines" project won the First Prize of the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award.

The super-large-diameter shield tunneling machine is a powerful tool for crossing rivers and seas, and its service environment often faces challenges such as large cross-sections, high water pressure, and complex strata. CRCHI deployed its forces and established a super-large-diameter shield tunneling machine R&D team. Supported by national and provincial/ministerial science and technology projects, and with the railway corps spirit of "cutting roads through mountains and building bridges across waters," the team overcame difficulties and independently developed major equipment including the first domestic 16-meter-class super-large-diameter shield tunneling machine "Jinghua No." and China's deepest subsea tunnel shield tunneling machine "Shenjiang No. 1," supporting the construction of multiple major national projects and becoming a successful model of China's creation.

At the meeting, Liu Feixiang, Chief Scientist of CRCHI, spoke as a representative of the award winners. He described CRCHI's innovation journey of breaking through key core technologies through independent innovation, collaborative innovation, and open innovation, and over more than a decade achieving the transition from 0 to 1 and from 1 to many, building national heavy equipment, leading industrial development, and moving comprehensively toward internationalization. He said that winning the First Prize of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award this time is the greatest recognition of the enterprise's solid commitment to innovation and unremitting efforts in tackling key problems, and that CRCHI will "be willing to devote this life to serving the country, and strive for self-reliance and strength to forge heavy equipment."
