Abstract

This year, the "Science Explorer Award" for the first time adopted a format of announcing to the public immediately after the final review, which had just concluded on the evening of August 25. On August 26, the list of winners for the 2024 (sixth) "Science Explorer Award" was freshly released, with 4 rock mechanics science and technology workers selected!‍

On August 26, the list of winners for the 2024 (sixth) "Science Explorer Award" was freshly released. Fan Fengtao, a researcher at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 49 other young scientists received this honor. Over the next five years, they will receive a freely disposable prize of 3 million yuan funded by the New Cornerstone Science Foundation.

It is understood that this year the "Science Explorer Award" for the first time adopted a format of announcing to the public immediately after the final review, which had just concluded on the evening of August 25.

Professor Zhang Ru of Sichuan University, a director of the ninth Council of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering and a member of the Party-Government Joint Leadership Team of its Education Working Committee; Professor Fei Hongzhan of Zhejiang University, a member of the High Temperature and High Pressure Rock Mechanics Professional Committee; and Professor Feng Shijin of Tongji University, a member of the Polar Geotechnical Mechanics and Engineering Professional Committee, have won the 2024 Science Explorer Award! Congratulations to them!

The list of the 4 geotechnical engineering science and technology workers who won the award is compiled as follows:

The "Science Explorer Award" was established in 2018. It is a public welfare award funded by the New Cornerstone Science Foundation and led by scientists, and is currently one of the domestic funding programs with the highest amounts for young scientific and technological talent. The award aims to support outstanding young scientific and technological workers aged 45 or below (relaxed to 48 for women) who work full-time in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, encouraging them to explore the scientific "uncharted territory" with undivided attention.
