On August 27, the Gaoshao Tunnel of the Xi'an–Yan'an High-Speed Railway, constructed by China Railway Sixth Group Co., Ltd. under the commissioning of the Xi'an–Chengdu Passenger Dedicated Line Shaanxi Company, was successfully holed through. With this, all nine high-risk tunnels along the entire Xi'an–Yan'an High-Speed Railway have been fully holed through, laying a solid foundation for the line to be completed and opened to traffic on schedule.

The Gaoshao Tunnel of the Xi'an–Yan'an High-Speed Railway is located within Ganquan County, Yan'an City, with a total length of 6,824.60 meters; it is a single-tube, double-track tunnel. The tunnel passes through a loess ridge-and-gully region with complex geological conditions, and is one of the nine high-risk tunnels along the entire Xi'an–Yan'an High-Speed Railway, involving great construction difficulty and a long construction period. During the survey and design of the tunnel, the technical team of China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group carried out specialized design targeting the key and difficult aspects of the project, providing assurance for safe tunnel construction. To ensure the safe advancement of tunnel construction, the construction unit organized the design, construction, and supervision units to carry out technical research and to continuously deepen grid-based management and "penetrative" labor management. The construction unit organized construction strictly in accordance with the principles of "weak blasting, short advance, strong support, early closure, and frequent measurement," coordinated and controlled the construction schedule, closely monitored the interface between each process, optimized techniques to improve efficiency, and ensured the smooth holing-through of the tunnel.

The Xi'an–Yan'an High-Speed Railway line starts from the Xi'an East Station currently under construction, runs north through Baqiao District, Lintong District, Gaoling District, and Yanliang District of Xi'an City; Fuping County of Weinan City; Yaozhou District, Wangyi District, Yintai District, and Yijun County of Tongchuan City; and Huangling County, Luochuan County, Fu County, Ganquan County, and Baota District of Yan'an City, before connecting to the existing Yan'an Station. Along the route, 11 stations are set up: Gangwuqu East (overtaking), Gaoling, Fuping South, Tongchuan, Tongchuan North, Yijun, Huangling West, Luochuan, Fu County North, Ganquan North, and Yan'an Station (existing).

The Xi'an–Yan'an High-Speed Railway has a total length of approximately 300 kilometers and a planned construction period of 5 years. Construction of the Tongchuan–Yan'an section started in May 2021, and construction of the Xi'an–Tongchuan section started in November 2022. The Xi'an–Yan'an High-Speed Railway is the first high-speed railway in the old revolutionary base area of northern Shaanxi and, together with the Xi'an–Kangyang, Kangyang–Chongqing, and Yan'an–Yulin high-speed railways currently under construction, forms a major north-south corridor running through Shaanxi. After completion and operation, the railway travel time from Xi'an to Yan'an will be shortened to about 1 hour, driving the revitalization of the old revolutionary base area of northern Shaanxi and accelerating the construction of the Xi'an metropolitan area and Xi'an as a national central city; it is of great significance for improving Shaanxi's comprehensive multi-dimensional transportation network and the national high-speed railway network.
