Recently, as the XCMG "Hanjiang" pipe jacking machine slowly passed through the receiving shaft portal, the river-crossing pipe jacking of the Danjiangkou City urban water supply capacity improvement project was successfully received, marking the official completion of China's first long-distance pipe jacking water supply tunnel crossing the Hanjiang River.

The geological formations in the project construction section are complex and variable, requiring full-face rock layer breaking and crossing multiple strata such as strongly to moderately weathered rock; long-distance river-crossing construction is highly difficult, with abundant groundwater, making it impossible to open the chamber for inspection and cutter replacement.

The project is located in the urban area of Danjiangkou City, Hubei Province. It is a livelihood project designed to meet the water demand of Danjiangkou City's long-term planned population and improve the quality of domestic and production water for residents. The project construction content involves both banks of Danjiangkou City, starting from the Second Water Plant and ending at the ** Water Plant, with a total length of approximately 10 km of newly built pipelines. Among them, the river-crossing pipe jacking water supply tunnel has a total length of approximately 718 m and an outer diameter of 2.4 m, making it the most difficult section of the entire construction process.

The XCMG XDN2000-R pipe jacking machine adopts a composite rock cutterhead and is equipped with a high-torque reduction gearbox. Facing geology such as weathered rock and hard rock, the XCMG XDN2000-R crosses the full-face rock layer, where the maximum saturated uniaxial compressive strength of the rock is approximately 70 MPa. Its maximum daily advance can reach 25 m, and it ultimately took 3 months to successfully exit the tunnel.

In addition, XCMG technical personnel were stationed on site to fully assist the project department in overcoming difficulties such as underwater reception of pipe jacking in high-water-pressure strata, ensuring the smooth progress of the project and delivering a result satisfactory to the construction party in terms of construction efficiency and service quality.
