Recently, a giant rebar cage 50 meters tall and weighing 87 tons was lowered smoothly into the trench, marking the smooth start of construction on the Jiefang Dajie Station of Phase I of Shijiazhuang Metro Line 5. The station is currently the deepest metro station in Hebei Province.

Phase I of Shijiazhuang Metro Line 5 is being built by Shijiazhuang Rail Transit Group. The line is about 19.9 kilometers long with 19 stations in total. It starts at Gongbeilu Station and runs mainly along Hongqi Dajie, Youyi Dajie, Shizhuang Lu and Guanghua Lu, ending at Tangu Beidajie Station. All stations are underground.

The Jiefang Dajie Station now under construction is a five-level island-type station with a depth of 38 meters, making it the deepest metro station in Hebei Province—equivalent to building a 13-story-tall station beneath the main road Guanghua Lu. The station is located in an old residential area and is dominated by soft strata such as sand layers. Its base slab extends 11 meters below the groundwater level. Building this ultra-deep metro station in a sensitive geological and hydrological environment has posed challenges for the project team.

Project leader Chen Xiaofeng explained, "Diaphragm walls have high rigidity, integrity and impermeability, and can effectively improve the stability and bearing capacity of the engineering structure, greatly avoiding the risk of foundation settlement or collapse."

In addition, the project team introduced a digital steel-support control system to enable real-time monitoring and intelligent pressure regulation of station excavation and the retaining structure, keeping the retaining structure of the entire station foundation pit in a stable and controllable support system throughout excavation and preventing any displacement of the retaining structure.

It is reported that Phase I of Line 5 is an L-shaped auxiliary filling line running northwest-southeast. It interlocks with Shijiazhuang Metro Line 4 to form a ring around the periphery of the central urban area. It is of great significance for improving the hierarchy of the rail transit network, further optimizing the spatial structure of the urban area, promoting coordinated regional development, enhancing travel convenience for residents, and helping to raise the city's development level and comprehensive carrying capacity.
