On August 1, after 22 months of construction by the builders, Tunnels No. 1 and No. 2 in Cheng County on the Gansu Tianshui–Longnan Railway were successfully holed through at the same time, completing the tunnel construction task one year ahead of schedule.

The Gansu Tianshui–Longnan Railway runs from Tianshui City in the north to Longnan City in the south, with a newly built main line totaling 208.207 kilometers. It is a key project identified in the national medium- and long-term railway network plan and the Gansu Province 14th Five-Year Railway Development Plan, and is also the first railway project in Gansu Province to be independently invested in and constructed by the province. The Tianshui–Longnan Railway section covered is 6.002 km in length and mainly comprises "two bridges, two tunnels, three roads and one station." The successful holing-through of Tunnels No. 1 and No. 2 in Cheng County has laid a solid foundation for the early completion and opening of the entire line.

Once the Tianshui–Longnan Railway is completed, it will further enhance regional transportation capacity, promote coordinated regional economic and social development, and smooth the road traffic and intra-city circulation micro-circulation in southeastern Gansu, playing an important role in fostering an important growth pole and source of momentum for Gansu Province's high-quality development.
