Asphalt milling machines, asphalt distributor trucks, asphalt pavers, smooth-wheel rollers and other mechanical equipment were all deployed, with more than 20 workers working through the night. At 6:00 a.m. on July 31, with the completion of asphalt paving, the flood control and drainage project for the Chenzhou Economic Development Zone section of Chenzhou Avenue was fully completed.
Due to historical planning and construction reasons, the drainage pipes along the Chenzhou Economic Development Zone section of Chenzhou Avenue fell far short of the required drainage capacity. Severe waterlogging occurred whenever there was heavy rain, posing an urban safety hazard and affecting the production and daily life of enterprises in the Chenzhou Science and Technology Industrial Park and residents of surrounding communities, drawing strong complaints from the public.
In late February, the Beihu District Urban Management Bureau organized professionals to conduct on-site surveys of the drainage network along the road and formulated a design plan for the drainage network renovation and upgrading project. On March 1, following a public tender, a professional construction team was organized to commence work. At the same time, project supervision was strengthened and strict control was exercised over engineering quality. After five months of intensive construction with overtime work, the outdated, damaged and insufficient-capacity drainage pipes were upgraded to high standards, with more than 600 meters of new rainwater-sewage diversion drainage pipes and 19 inspection wells built.
"With the completion of the drainage pipe renovation along this section, the results are immediate. During the flood control period for Typhoon Gaemi a few days ago, there was no rainstorm waterlogging here like before!" said Wang Yueping, a staff member of the Beihu District Municipal Public Facilities Maintenance Center, happily. Not only has the local waterlogging problem been fundamentally solved and the drainage and flood control capacity improved, but the business environment for enterprises in the Chenzhou Science and Technology Industrial Park and the living environment of surrounding residents have also been greatly improved.
