July 31 (Xinhua) — According to the official WeChat account of the Ministry of Transport, in order to strengthen the management of measuring instruments used in the industry, ensure the accuracy and reliability of their value transfer, and reinforce the foundational supporting role of metrology in guaranteeing the quality of transport engineering and products, the Ministry of Transport recently issued the "Catalogue of Metrological Management of Specialized Testing and Inspection Instruments and Equipment for Highways (2024)" and the "Catalogue of Metrological Management of Specialized Testing and Inspection Instruments and Equipment for Water Transport (2024)."

The two catalogues respectively revise and improve the "Catalogue of Metrological Management of Testing and Inspection Instruments and Equipment for Highway Engineering" issued in 2012 and the "Catalogue of Metrological Management of Specialized Testing and Inspection Instruments and Equipment for Water Transport" issued in 2016. First, the catalogue structure has been optimized, and clear provisions have been made on the names, recommended grading levels, and key metrological parameters of testing and inspection instruments and equipment; second, in close alignment with the needs of accelerating the building of a transport powerhouse and the high-quality development of the industry, the instruments and equipment included in the catalogues have been optimized and adjusted; third, keeping abreast of metrology technology trends, the catalogues fully reflect the development trends of metrological testing technologies such as digital metrology, remote metrology, and online metrology, and have added new types of instruments and equipment in related fields. After this revision, a total of 253 metrological technical specifications are included in the highway field (of which 133 are currently in force, 25 are under development, and 95 are pending development), and a total of 134 specifications are included in the water transport field (of which 59 are currently in force, 21 are under development, and 54 are pending development).

The revised two "Catalogues" further respond to the industry's high-quality development needs for metrological technologies and metrological services. As guiding documents for improving the transport metrology technical system and strengthening the metrological management of key testing and inspection instruments and equipment in the highway and water transport fields over the coming period, they provide a basis for accelerating the effective supply of metrological technical specifications in key fields.
