July 29 (Xinhua) — According to the website of the National Meteorological Center, heavy rainfall continued to affect Hunan, Liaoning, Jilin and other places yesterday. Monitoring shows that torrential or heavy torrential rain occurred in parts of central and western Hunan, southern Hubei, southeastern Chongqing, northeastern Guizhou, northern Guangxi, northwestern Guangdong and the southern coastal areas of Guangdong, southeastern Yunnan, northern Henan, central and western Shandong and the northern part of the Shandong Peninsula, central and northern Liaoning, and central and eastern Jilin. Locally, extremely heavy torrential rain (250–393 mm) fell in Huaihua, Changsha, Shaoyang and Loudi in Hunan, Zhanjiang in Guangdong, and Baise in Guangxi.

Starting today, rainfall in Hunan, which has been frequently hit by heavy rain recently, will weaken markedly, with only moderate to heavy rain and local torrential rain remaining in the northwestern part. Rainfall in the Liaoning-Jilin area will also temporarily weaken today but will pick up again tomorrow.

Over the next three days, relatively strong rainfall is still expected across both northern and southern China. Moderate to heavy rain is forecast for southern South China, the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, northwestern Hunan, Chongqing, western Hubei, eastern Shaanxi, and the North China and Northeast China regions, with heavy torrential rain in some areas and locally extremely heavy torrential rain. Today, moderate to heavy rain is expected in western Hubei, northwestern Hunan, most of Chongqing, northeastern Guizhou, northeastern and southern Sichuan, most of Yunnan, southern Guangxi, southwestern Guangdong, northeastern and southern Hainan Island, southeastern Shaanxi, western Henan, central and southern Shanxi, central and southern Hebei, southeastern Beijing, central and northern Tianjin, and northeastern Heilongjiang. Heavy torrential rain is forecast for parts of eastern and northern Chongqing, southwestern Hubei, southeastern Shaanxi, western Henan, southwestern Shanxi, northern and southeastern Yunnan, the southern coast of Guangxi, and the southwestern coast of Guangdong, with locally extremely heavy torrential rain (250–260 mm).

Meteorological experts remind the public that although rainfall in Hunan, Liaoning, Jilin and other places will weaken markedly today, geological disasters often lag behind, so the public should stay away from dangerous areas such as mountainous regions, pay attention to rainfall and flood-season conditions, and take timely precautionary measures. Rainfall will be relatively strong today in eastern Shaanxi, Chongqing, northwestern Yunnan, southern Sichuan and other places, and the public should be on alert for secondary disasters such as flash floods and landslides that the rain may trigger.

As for high temperatures, over the next 10 days, high-temperature weather with daily maximum temperatures of 35–38°C is expected for 7–10 days in the Xinjiang basin area, western Inner Mongolia, western Gansu, northern Ningxia, southern Huang-Huai, Jianghan, Jianghuai, Jiangnan and other places, with maximum temperatures of 39–40°C in some areas and up to 41–43°C locally in the Xinjiang basin area and western Inner Mongolia. Today, high temperatures above 35°C are expected in Anhui, Jiangsu, eastern Hubei, northern Jiangxi, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Xinjiang, with local readings above 40°C in the Xinjiang basin. The public should take measures to prevent heatstroke and stay cool.
