Just after 7 a.m. on July 5, Xu Yanni, dressed in work clothes, appeared at Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Yuchai"). From presiding over the workshop morning meeting to arranging production tasks, as the line leader of the new product trial-production assembly line in the new product trial-production workshop of Yuchai's Manufacturing Division, she was busy nonstop as soon as she arrived at the company.

Thirty years of hard work have enabled Xu Yanni to grow from an ordinary engine assembler into a special-grade technician. She can no longer remember how many machines she has assembled, let alone how many engines she has given a "physical examination." Everyone has great confidence in the products that pass through her hands. Not long ago, Xu Yanni was named a National March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter.

Since joining Yuchai in 1994, Xu Yanni has been working on the production frontline. Relying on an unyielding spirit, Xu Yanni was the first among the workers who joined the factory in the same batch to be promoted to senior technician.

In March 2018, Yuchai launched small-batch production of engines that meet the National Phase VI Motor Vehicle Pollutant Emission Standard (hereinafter referred to as "China VI"). In June of the same year, Xu Yanni was assigned to take charge of the trial-production assembly of new China VI engines.

"Trial production of new products is no ordinary task; each round of assembly may face different difficulties," Xu Yanni said. She and her team worked closely together to bring the quality and performance of the new China VI engines up to the expected standards, laying a solid foundation for subsequent mass production.

The YCK05H hydrogen-fueled engine developed by Yuchai is China's first hydrogen-fueled engine for commercial vehicles, and it completed ignition and stable operation in December 2021. In early 2022, Xu Yanni and her team took on the assembly work for the YCK05H hydrogen-fueled engine.

"After the 'dual carbon' goals were proposed in 2020, researchers in the automotive engine industry worked hard to develop products and equipment in a green and low-carbon direction. After fully understanding the industry situation, the company's technical team decided to develop the YCK05H hydrogen-fueled engine to help achieve the 'dual carbon' goals. The assembly work for the new engine is crucial," Xu Yanni said.

Afterward, Xu Yanni led her team members in conducting a comprehensive inspection of the engine, from flange-face bolts to the turbocharger; she did not overlook any small part. She also established working mechanisms such as "daily coordination" and "weekly spot checks" to advance the work as quickly as possible. Through the efforts of Xu Yanni and her team, the YCK05H hydrogen-fueled engine rarely encountered problems in multiple rounds of trial production and successfully passed feasibility verification.

Under Xu Yanni's management, the performance of Yuchai's new product trial-production workshop fully met targets, the engine batch pass rate rose to 92%, the test-run success rate reached 95.5%, and the production cycle was shortened by more than half. With outstanding product quality, Yuchai's new products have won recognition from many customers after coming to market.

In addition to advancing new product launches, Xu Yanni also established the Yuchai Female Employees Innovation Studio and the Xu Yanni Model Worker Innovation Studio. She leads the studio team members in tackling technical challenges and boosting the company's innovative development.

"We not only optimize and improve production lines but also actively explore the application of new technologies," Xu Yanni said. In the studio, she leads team members in deeply studying and solving problems encountered by the company during production.

Once, at the production site, Xu Yanni noticed that when installing the U-shaped seal ring on the end cover of the hydraulic cylinder, employees first pinched the seal ring out of shape by hand, then stuffed it into the end cover hole, and then used a screwdriver to pry, pick, and press the seal ring bit by bit into the seal groove.

"This method of operation not only easily damages the seal ring but is also time-consuming and laborious," Xu Yanni said. After analysis, she and her colleagues designed a seal ring installation caliper. Using this caliper, workers can complete the seal ring installation in less than one minute.

In July 2023, this caliper was unveiled at the Second Craftsman of a Great Nation Innovation Exchange Conference and Craftsman of a Great Nation Forum, attracting the attention and recognition of many peers.

In recent years, the Xu Yanni Model Worker Innovation Studio has overcome multiple technical difficulties. Under her leadership, the studio has completed 25 innovation projects, including the "Development of High-Strength Lightweight V-Type Engine Aluminum Alloy Cylinder Head," of which 5 achievements won *** awards.

" These innovation achievements demonstrate the strong strength of Xu Yanni and her team and have brought more than 10 million yuan in direct economic benefits to Yuchai, " said Kou Chuanfu, president of the Yuchai Technician Association and Engineering Technology Association.

"Perhaps our positions are ordinary, and every day we just 'wrestle' with small parts one after another, but our responsibilities are extraordinary. I hope to inspire more people to devote themselves to technological innovation and contribute my modest efforts to improving product quality," Xu Yanni said.
