At 9 a.m. on July 16, with the sound of the final blast, the right tube of the tunnel on the Gaobei Dashuikeng–Kanshi Wenxiu Highway (Phase IV of the Expressway) along National Highway G235 in Longyan was successfully holed through after more than 400 days, marking the full breakthrough of both tubes of the Wenxiu Tunnel and achieving a major milestone toward the eventual opening of the project to traffic. The breakthrough also provides great convenience for subsequent construction material transport and working faces.

It is understood that the Gaobei Dashuikeng–Kanshi Wenxiu section highway project along National Highway G235 in Longyan is a key provincial and municipal construction project, with a total investment of 398 million yuan. The project starts in the north at Gaobei Dashuikeng, the terminus of Phase III of the Expressway, and ends in the south at the Kanshi Wenxiu Industrial Park, connecting with the County Road Kanhu Highway. With a total length of 2.647 km, it is built to the standard of a Class I highway with urban road functions, with a design speed of 60 km/h, dual carriageways with six lanes, and a standard subgrade width of 34 m. Among these, the Wenxiu Tunnel is an extra-large cross-section double-tube long tunnel and the most important component of the entire line. Once completed, the project will become an important corridor for Yongding's integration into the central urban area of Longyan, further promoting interconnection between the Longyan High-tech Zone and the Wenxiu Industrial Park and driving rapid local economic development.

During the civil construction of the tunnel, technical difficulties were overcome, including shallow cover and eccentric pressure at the tunnel portal, variable surrounding rock, crossing water-rich strata, multiple fault structural zones, and goaf areas in coal-bearing strata. In addition, information systems such as ground-penetrating radar and TSP advanced geological forecasting were used to monitor tunnel excavation in real time, strictly safeguarding construction safety and achieving the goal of safe and smooth tunnel breakthrough, giving a strong boost to subsequent construction.

The left tube of the project tunnel was holed through on April 8, 2024. The breakthrough of the right tube marks the full breakthrough of the project, which will directly connect the Phase III intercity expressway and the Kanhu Highway, greatly shortening construction travel time between the two locations and laying a solid foundation for the completion of the project.
