The Binhai Express Line's Jizhong section has successfully achieved dual-line tunnel breakthrough.

In 2024, Fuzhou's four under-construction lines—the Binhai Express Line, Line 2 East Extension, Line 6 East Adjustment Section, and Line 4 Rear Section—plan to complete an annual investment of 8.7 billion yuan. Currently, all lines are progressing smoothly. As of the end of June, a cumulative annual investment of 4.49347 billion yuan has been completed, accounting for 52% of the target, exceeding the "double over half" task.

Recently, good news came from the Fuzhou Binhai Express Line: the section from the Airport Station to the Intermediate Ventilation Shaft (referred to as the Jizhong section) has successfully achieved dual-line tunnel breakthrough, becoming the 17th tunnel section among the line's 18 sections to achieve dual-line breakthrough, bringing it one step closer to the milestone goal of full-line tunnel holing-through.

It is understood that the Jizhong section is one of the shield tunneling sections with the most complex geological conditions and the greatest excavation difficulty on the Binhai Express Line, and construction requires passing through six segments of boulder clusters.

Li Jiu, a technician from the construction unit CCCC Third Highway Engineering Co., Ltd., explained that encountering boulders during shield tunneling can easily damage the cutterhead if one is not careful. "The Jizhong section encountered such situations nearly a thousand times; when the shield machine passes through boulder strata, it must perform pressurized chamber opening to replace cutters every 27 meters."

Why not use the once-and-for-all method of drilling and blasting to remove the boulders? The construction party explained that the Jizhong section passes beneath airport-related roads and is adjacent to airport areas and facilities; to ensure the normal operation of the airport, they could only seek other solutions.

How to solve the problem and speed up construction? To this end, Fuzhou Metro organized five design seminars to continuously optimize and improve the boulder treatment plan. To protect the shield machine's "teeth," Fuzhou Metro also organized and established a professional shield maintenance team to strictly implement equipment management, use, maintenance, and repair.

It is understood that, as an important line connecting the railway, airport, and urban rail transit networks, currently all 15 stations on the Binhai Express Line have achieved capping of their main structures, 17 shield tunneling and tunnel sections have completed dual-line holing-through, a cumulative 98.5% of the total section length has been completed, the bridge main structures are 100% complete, and the entire line's 19.8 kilometers of bridges have been connected.

Thanks to the high-quality service guarantees of multiple departments working together and the diligent efforts of Fuzhou Metro, in addition to the continuously "newly updated" Binhai Express Line, the other three under-construction lines are also full of surprises.

Among them, on the Line 2 East Extension, 5 stations have completed capping of their main structures, 4 stations are under main structure construction, 2 sections have achieved dual-line holing-through, and 4 sections are under shield tunneling construction. Regarding the Line 6 East Adjustment Section, all 5 stations on the line have completed main structure construction, 2 sections have achieved full-line holing-through, and cumulative shield tunneling on the entire line has reached 53%. Regarding the Line 4 Rear Section, ventilation, water, and electrical works and decoration have cumulatively reached 95%, and electromechanical systems have cumulatively reached 90%.
