On July 14, the Jinhua No. 3 Tunnel in Work Zone 06 of the Fusong–Changbai Expressway (Songchang Expressway), constructed by China Railway No. 4 Engineering Group, officially began tunnel excavation. This marks another breakthrough for the work zone following the start of excavation at the Guniangwan Tunnel exit.

Both the entrance and exit of Jinhua No. 3 Tunnel are located in Jinhua Village, Jinhua Township, Changbai Korean Autonomous County, Jilin Province, passing through Yuanbao Mountain. It is designed as a curved separated tunnel with a technical standard of two-way four lanes. The left tube has a total length of 780 meters with a maximum crown cover depth of 114 meters; the right tube has a total length of 744 meters with a maximum crown cover depth of 118 meters; the maximum spacing between the centerlines of the two tubes is approximately 53 meters.
The terrain at the exit portal slopes of both the left and right tubes is highly undulating, with natural slopes ranging from 28° to 33° and lush vegetation. To reduce the impact of construction disturbance on natural resources, the project adhered to minimizing temporary land occupation and optimizing portal layout during tunnel construction, so as to avoid affecting the surrounding mountains and trees.
According to reports, because the exit of Jinhua No. 3 Tunnel is located halfway up the mountain, the machinery working area is cramped and the portal is subject to eccentric loading. The contractor therefore maintained active communication with the command center, supervision unit, and design unit to optimize the excavation scheme. In subsequent construction, the contractor will organize excavation using the ring-cut method with reserved core soil, the single-side drift method, and the bench method according to the different surrounding rock grades inside the tunnel, ensuring construction safety and progress.

To meet the milestone schedule and quality requirements, the contractor implemented a "triplicate form" system at the steel reinforcement processing plant. Each batch of steel reinforcement must have a signed factory release application, a qualified confirmation signature from technical personnel, and a signature from the work crew before use, ensuring the quality of finished and semi-finished products leaving the plant. In key processes such as technical briefings and usage instructions, "QR code information management" was introduced to keep abreast of relevant information in a timely manner. At the same time, the project broke down construction tasks in detail, solidified responsibilities at all levels, fully allocated production factors, and strictly enforced rewards and penalties through daily notifications, weekly summaries, and monthly assessments, igniting an upsurge of intensive construction with a determination to win, so that the project advances safely, orderly, and rapidly.
The Fusong–Changbai Expressway starts on the southeast side of Songjianghe Town, Fusong County, passes through Fusong County, Linjiang City, and Changbai County, and ends on the north side of Liangjiang Village, Changbai County. The main line has a total length of 114.335 kilometers. Work Zone 06 of the Songchang Expressway, in which China Railway No. 4 Engineering Group participates, is located in Changbai Korean Autonomous County, Baishan City. It starts south of Shiliudaogou Village, passes north of Jinhua Township, west of Jiugu Village, and south of Litian Village, with a total length of 15.689 kilometers and a contractual construction period of 48 months.
This project is an important component of the Changchun–Changbai Mountain Expressway and also an important tourist route and strategic corridor in Jilin Province. Once completed, it will not only completely end the history of Changbai County having no expressway access, but will also further promote economic development, cultural exchange, and rural revitalization along the route.
