On the morning of July 10, the left tube of the Baizhishan Tunnel of the G106 Ezhou Bishi to Huangshi Tieshan Reconstruction Project (Ezhou Section) was successfully launched, marking the official start of construction of Ezhou City's first ordinary highway tunnel project to date.

To ensure the smooth launching of the tunnel, the project team formulated a detailed construction plan, refined tasks, reversed the schedule, and made every effort to guarantee on-site resource allocation, successfully completing various procedures including site clearing and leveling, construction of the water-intercepting ditch at the slope crest, excavation and shotcrete-anchor protection of the side and face slopes, and construction of the pipe roof at the tunnel portal. In view of the characteristics of the shallow-buried section at the tunnel portal, including shallow cover, fractured surrounding rock, poor self-stabilization capacity, and high construction difficulty, the project team adopted the pipe roof root-pipe drilling construction technique and the CD method excavation technique. These techniques will greatly reduce the excavation cross-section size, lower construction risks, and ensure tunnel construction safety. The successful launching of the left tube of the Baizhishan Tunnel has laid a solid foundation for subsequent construction.

The G106 Ezhou Bishi to Huangshi Tieshan Reconstruction Project (Ezhou Section) is not only a key construction project in the 14th Five-Year Plan for Comprehensive Transportation Development of Hubei Province, but also an important component of the "Vertical Line Two" among the "Three Horizontals and Three Verticals" of the Wuhan New City and Ezhou-Huanggang-Huangshi expressway system. The Baizhishan Tunnel is an important controlling project of this project. The Ezhou section of the Baizhishan Tunnel starts at Yanggang Village, Tingzu Town, runs southwest through Baizhishan, and ends at the connection with the Huangshi section tunnel project of National Highway G106.
