In July 2024, the Snowy 2.0 construction team fractured the surrounding rock through high-pressure hydraulic blasting, allowing the Florence TBM to resume excavation. Previously, while constructing the Snowy 2.0 water conveyance tunnel, the Florence TBM experienced a prolonged shutdown because high-hardness, highly abrasive rock wore down the cutterhead's peripheral cutters.

The Snowy 2.0 project is Australia's largest renewable energy project. It will connect two reservoirs through 27 km of tunnels and a power station with pumping capability, enabling water to be released for power generation during peak demand and pumped back to the upper storage when there is surplus energy in the system, ready for generating power again.
