On July 9, with the excavation construction of the diversion tunnel branch of the Guxian Water Conservancy Project on the Yellow River, it marks that this key controlling project on the main stream of the Yellow River has entered the construction stage.

The Guxian Project is located in the Grand Canyon section of the middle reaches of the Yellow River, with Jixian County of Shanxi Province on the left bank and Yichuan County of Shaanxi Province on the right bank. It is a core project of the Yellow River water and sediment regulation system and an important node project of the national water network.

The construction of the Guxian Project is a key link in addressing the insufficient follow-up power for water and sediment regulation at the Xiaolangdi Reservoir, fully leveraging the overall synergy of the water and sediment regulation system, and improving the water and sediment regulation mechanism. The dam site of the project can control 73% of the water volume, 60% of the sediment volume, and 80% of the coarse sediment volume of the Yellow River basin.
