Recently, at the construction site of the Ganzhou Rongjiang Tunnel project, as the tunnel boring machine broke through the soil, the "final drilling" of the tunnel's east bore was successfully completed, marking the smooth breakthrough of both tunnel bores and bringing the project one step closer to the goal of opening to traffic.

The Ganzhou Rongjiang Tunnel project is a key provincial and municipal livelihood project with a total investment of approximately 1.799 billion yuan. The project starts south of the western extension of Kejia Avenue in the Ganzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, connecting to Feixiang Avenue, and ends north of Yingshanhong Avenue in the Rongjiang New Area, connecting to Rongjiang Avenue. The main construction content includes cut-and-cover tunnels, mined tunnels, and surface roads, with a main line length of approximately 2.41 kilometers (including 4 ramps). The west bore was completed on January 18 of this year.

The Rongjiang Tunnel is the seventh river-crossing tunnel in China constructed using the mining method and the first such tunnel in Jiangxi Province, as well as the first river-crossing tunnel in Ganzhou. Its difficulty lies in the thin overburden rock thickness, poor surrounding rock grade, and small clear distance along the entire line. To ensure the smooth progress of the project, the construction contractor adopted advanced forecasting methods such as ground-penetrating radar and advance drilling to accurately determine the geological conditions of the surrounding rock ahead of excavation, and used a cantilever roadheader for mechanical excavation to reduce disturbance to the surrounding rock.

It is reported that the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Once completed, it will further improve the backbone road network structure of the Ganzhou Rongjiang New Area, strengthen the connection between the Ganzhou Rongjiang New Area and important urban functional areas such as the High-Speed Railway West Station and Huangjin Airport, further promote the formation of the city's emerging functional development axis, drive land development in surrounding areas, and promote rapid regional economic development.
