On June 25, 2024, the new trains for the Tianjin Metro Line 5 Adjustment Project were successfully delivered to the Liyuantou Depot, and static and dynamic testing and other work will be carried out subsequently.

Line 5 Adjustment Project

The Tianjin Metro Line 5 Adjustment Project is an extension of the existing Metro Line 5. It starts on the west side of Liqizhuang South Station of Metro Line 5 and ends north of Jinghuadongdao (Jinghua East Avenue) on the south side of the Liyuantou Depot. After completion, the line will be through-operated with the first-phase section of the Jinjing Line and will offer same-platform transfer at Jinghuadongdao Station.

Features of the New Trains

The new trains for the Line 5 Adjustment Project are all Type B cars with a maximum operating speed of 120 km/h. Unlike the trains on the existing Line 5, the new trains are formed in 3-car multiple-unit sets and can be dynamically adjusted according to operational needs. They adopt a "3+3" online coupling/uncoupling (attach/detach) train organization method, better achieving an efficient match among transport capacity, efficiency and energy saving during off-peak and peak periods. This technology is also being applied for the first time in the field of Tianjin rail transit.
