On June 24, as the first side-panel precast block was lifted into place, Chengzi Station, the first prefabricated station on Qingdao Metro Line 9, officially began assembly.

The construction of a prefabricated station is vividly likened to "building with blocks." The main precast components of the station are produced in a streamlined process at the factory and then transported to the construction site for assembly. The precast components of Chengzi Station fall into five types: side walls, roof slabs, middle slabs, columns, and longitudinal beams. The largest component is the flat-arch roof slab, weighing approximately 103.3 tons.

Compared with conventional cast-in-place metro stations, prefabricated stations offer many advantages: greater safety, as the number of on-site construction workers is reduced from 150 to 30, and numerous operations such as the installation and removal of formwork and scaffolding and the tying and welding of rebar are eliminated, greatly reducing construction risks; higher quality, as factory-based processing and standardized assembly of precast components achieve self-waterproofing of concrete; higher efficiency, as a standard prefabricated station can save 4-6 months of construction time; and greater environmental friendliness, as a standard prefabricated station can save about 800 tons of steel and 800 cubic meters of timber, reduce construction waste by 50%, and cut carbon emissions by about 4,158 tons, a reduction of 20%.
