Pudong Airport Phase IV Expansion Project

The South Zone Underground Transportation Hub and Supporting Project is an important component of the Pudong Airport Phase IV Expansion Project. On January 4, 2022, the Pudong Airport Phase IV Expansion Project broke ground. As a major project to accelerate interconnection within the Yangtze River Delta region, better serve passengers' high-quality travel, and meet the medium- and long-term development needs of base airlines and hub operations, the design of Pudong Airport T3 Terminal pioneered a "dual main building integrated configuration," which will achieve the "360" operational service goals of "100% bridge boarding rate, 100% connecting flights, 100% automated baggage sorting, and 60-minute transfer time," maximizing the provision of efficient and high-quality services to passengers and airlines. Upon completion, it will be able to support Pudong Airport's annual passenger throughput demand of 130 million person-trips.

At present, the feasibility study report for the T3 Terminal Area Project of the Pudong Airport Phase IV Expansion has been officially approved by the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, and construction is being sought to start within the year; the main works of the airfield area are expected to start soon. On May 7, the main line of Pudong Airport S1 Welcome Avenue (airport terminal section) reopened to traffic, laying the foundation for the airport联络线 (airport link line) trial operation in September and opening by the end of the year. In addition, the South Zone Underground Transportation Hub Project has entered the main structure construction phase, and projects such as the 220KV substation project, the APM vehicle depot, and municipal supporting projects are also being advanced at full speed.
