Recently, the Provincial Development and Reform Commission and the Provincial Department of Transportation jointly organized in Nanjing a review meeting on the feasibility study reports for three engineering projects: the waterway regulation project of the Suzhou Heshan Bridge section of the Sunan Canal, the Heshan Bridge reconstruction project, and the Changqiao Bridge reconstruction project.
Delegates and experts attending the meeting heard reports on the preparation and consultation of the feasibility study reports for the three projects. They considered that the Feasibility Study Reports contain complete data, sufficient analysis and argumentation, and content and depth that meet the requirements; that the construction standards and scale are reasonable; that the main construction plans are generally reasonable and feasible; and that the investment estimates comply with relevant regulations. They unanimously agreed to pass the review.
The Suzhou section of the Sunan Canal is 81.5 kilometers long. After years of continuous regulation, it has now reached the Grade III waterway standard and can accommodate 1,000-tonne vessels. Implementing the "Three-to-Two" (Grade III to Grade II) project on the Suzhou section of the Sunan Canal is an important means of tapping the resource potential and high-quality shoreline resources of the areas along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu, achieving growth in freight volume and improvement in freight quality in the Suzhou area, and is also an important measure for smoothing the north-south waterway artery of the Yangtze River Delta region and achieving high-quality development of water transport.
The smooth passage of the feasibility study report review for these three projects marks key progress in the preliminary work of the "Three-to-Two" project on the Suzhou section of the Sunan Canal and lays a solid foundation for the project to subsequently obtain feasibility study approval from the Provincial Development and Reform Commission. In the next stage, the Suzhou transport authorities will, in accordance with the spirit of the meeting, further revise and improve the feasibility study reports and accelerate the transformation of the beautiful blueprint into vivid reality.
