Pile foundation construction for the main piers of the Nansha Wanlong Bridge completed

The reporter recently learned from China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group that the pile foundation construction for the main piers of the Wanlong Bridge—the world's largest-span self-anchored suspension bridge—has been fully completed, and the project has officially entered the over-water construction phase.

The bridge is located in Nansha District, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, with a total length of 5,146 meters, a main bridge length of 1,150 meters, and a main span of 608 meters, crossing the Longxue South Waterway at the Pearl River Estuary. Its two main towers are ultra-high elliptical steel towers, each 127 meters tall. Construction of the main bridge began in June 2023, and construction of the first pile for the main piers started in October of the same year. With a total investment exceeding 4 billion yuan, it is another landmark bridge in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

As a key link in the road network of Nansha's southern cluster in Guangzhou, the bridge, once completed, will effectively connect the Longxue Island International Shipping and Logistics Center with the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link and the Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway, strengthen the cargo collection and distribution functions of Nansha Port, and further enhance the transport capacity for internal connectivity and external access.

It is reported that the Wanlong Bridge takes "Bright Moon over Nansha" as its theme and incorporates bridge aesthetics into its design. Once completed, the two ultra-high elliptical steel towers will resemble two full moons suspended over the Pearl River Estuary, creating the visual effect of "a bright moon rising over the sea." The bridge will create a new landmark landscape for Guangzhou's Nansha and become a new calling card for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
