Phase I of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 23 is approximately 28.6 kilometers long and has 22 stations in total, including 6 interchange stations. The line connects important areas such as the Minhang Development Zone and the Xuhui Riverside area, and will effectively enhance rail transit support capacity for the Xuhui Riverside area and the Wujing area, as well as strengthen transport links between southern Minhang and the central city.

The Jiangchuan East Road Station–Zilong Road Station section (downbound line) began tunneling on December 20, 2023, and was the first tunnel section along the entire Shanghai Rail Transit Line 23 to start tunneling. With a total length of approximately 854.069 meters and 686 rings, it is the shield tunnel with the smallest curve radius on Line 23 (450 meters); the tunnel has a cover depth of 10.7 to 17.08 meters and a maximum longitudinal slope of 25.6‰. During tunneling, the shield section passed beneath numerous pipelines, revetments, and bridges, presenting significant engineering challenges.
