"The Summer Davos Forum provides a good opportunity to promote global innovation dialogue and will create new opportunities for the sustainable development of the world economy," said Chen Liming, Chief Representative of the World Economic Forum for Greater China, in a recent exclusive interview with our reporter.

In 2007, the first Summer Davos Forum was held in Dalian, China. This year marks the forum's return to Dalian after a five-year gap. Chen Liming said: "Compared with five years ago, the world we live in has undergone many changes. On the one hand, a series of risks triggered by climate change, geopolitical conflicts, and trade frictions have brought changes to today's world. On the other hand, humanity has never stopped exploring the frontiers of science and technology, and artificial intelligence, biotechnology, quantum computing, and the energy transition have all achieved rapid development."

"Scientific and technological development is the key driving force behind current global economic growth. This year's forum, themed 'New Frontiers for Future Growth,' aims to jointly address the challenges brought by the changing global landscape," Chen Liming said. At that time, about 1,600 representatives from the political, business, academic, and media circles of nearly 80 countries and regions will hold discussions around six major directions: "Global New Economy," "China and the World," "Entrepreneurship in the Age of AI," "New Frontiers of Industries," "Investing in People," and "Interconnections between Climate, Nature, and Energy."

Chen Liming said that at this year's forum, sessions focusing on global and Chinese economic issues have attracted much attention, including exploring ways of cooperation in the current international landscape, China's economic outlook, seeking growth amid complex risks, reconfiguring global trade routes, and addressing the fragmentation of the global financial system. "China is a crucial participant in global affairs, and the forum hopes to jointly build a better world by continuously deepening exchanges and cooperation with China."

Over the past decades, the substantial progress Chinese enterprises have made in innovation has left a deep impression on Chen Liming. Chen Liming said that in the "2024 Technology Pioneers" list released by the World Economic Forum in June this year, 11 Chinese companies were included, ranking second in the world by number. Among the latest batch of 153 global "Lighthouse Factories" announced by the World Economic Forum, 62 are Chinese companies, including high-tech enterprises in photovoltaics and new energy vehicles. China is the country with the most "Lighthouse Factories" in the world. "This reflects that China is becoming a new engine driving world innovation. In recent years, China's innovative technologies and applications in fields such as new energy, mobile payments, and cross-border e-commerce have led the world, and through technology transfer, talent training, and other means, it has shared innovative achievements with different regions and countries, helping to advance the global sustainable development process."

Chen Liming said that based on factors such as resource endowments, technological levels, and worker proficiency, China has greater competitive advantages in some industries. Some countries respond to trade disputes with sanctions, which is not feasible and will not produce good results. Instead, it will lead to a substantial decline in global economic efficiency, and the ultimate cost will be borne by consumers in various countries. Countries differ in development stages, industrial structures, infrastructure, and supply chains, and should make up for each other's needs by strengthening international trade connectivity.
