On June 22, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kinshasa ring road project in the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), undertaken by a Chinese enterprise, was held in Kinshasa. DRC President Tshisekedi attended the ceremony and personally drove a loader to lay the foundation stone for the project. DRC Prime Minister Tuluka, President of the National Assembly Kamerhe, Minister of State and Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works Muvuni, Chinese Ambassador to the DRC Zhao Bin, and China Railway Resources General Manager Lu Heyou attended the ceremony.

Tshisekedi said he thanked the Chinese enterprises for bringing advanced equipment and technology to the DRC, and expressed the hope that DRC-China cooperation in various fields will continue to deepen and become more substantive, benefiting the peoples of both countries.

In his address, Muvuni said that the start of the Kinshasa ring road project marks a new stage in DRC-China infrastructure cooperation. The multiple cooperation projects between the DRC and China in the infrastructure sector are conducive to strengthening road connectivity in the DRC and creating opportunities for the Congolese people.

Zhao Bin said that once completed, the Kinshasa ring road project is expected to become a new urban landmark of Kinshasa and a new calling card for China-DRC infrastructure cooperation. Since President Tshisekedi's successful visit to China in May last year, political mutual trust between China and the DRC has been continuously strengthened, economic and trade cooperation has been accelerated across the board, and cooperation outcomes have continued to emerge. As the China-DRC comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership continues to deepen, practical cooperation between the two sides will become increasingly rich and bring more tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.

In his address, Lu Heyou said that the start of the Kinshasa ring road project marks the beginning of a new round of infrastructure project construction under China-DRC cooperation. China Railway Resources has always practiced its corporate mission of "supporting the DRC's national development and improving the livelihood of the Congolese people," actively fulfilled its social responsibilities, and made more, greater and more positive contributions to boosting the economic and social development of the DRC.

The newly launched Kinshasa ring road project includes the southwest ring road and the southeast ring road. The project is about 66 kilometers long and features a two-way four-lane asphalt concrete roadway. Once completed, the project will effectively ease traffic congestion in Kinshasa, provide convenient travel conditions for residents along the route, and help local economic development and social stability.
