**News: Chengdu Rail Transit reports cause of road surface collapse

At 03:50 on June 21, outside the construction foundation pit of Xiaonan Street Station on Chengdu Rail Transit Line 13, two water pipes with diameters of 1 meter and 0.3 meters respectively, buried at a depth of about 2 meters, naturally burst, causing a road surface collapse of about 12 meters in length near No. 119 Jinli West Road. After the incident, the water pipes were shut down by the relevant property rights unit, the affected road was closed, and no one was injured at the scene. The incident did not directly affect the construction and operation of rail transit.

In the early hours of June 21, some netizens reported that a road surface collapse occurred on Chengdu Metro Line 13 near the Jinli West Road section.

A resident near Jinli West Road told reporters that he and his family were awakened by property management staff knocking on their doors at around 4 a.m. and told to evacuate urgently; some residents have now moved into hotels.

According to the Chengdu Public Security Bureau Traffic Management Bureau, at 7:33 a.m. on June 21, due to the road surface collapse on Jinli West Road, traffic control measures are now in place from Qingyang Palace toward Xiaonan Street, and drivers are asked to detour. A reporter's search found that the Jinli West Road section is currently closed and temporarily not open to traffic.

According to previous reports by local media, the first phase of the Chengdu Metro Line 13 project mainly passes through multiple areas including Qingyang District, Jinjiang District, and Longquanyi District, with most stations passing through the central urban area. Xiaonan Street Station is located on the west side of the intersection of Jinli West Road and Xiaonan Street in Qingyang District. Above the station is the Jinli West Road main road, which has heavy traffic and does not meet the conditions for open-cut construction, so the semi-covered cut method was adopted.

The so-called semi-covered cut method refers to dividing the foundation pit beneath the main road into two parts: after excavating the earthwork on one side, a reinforced concrete cover slab is added to allow vehicles to pass, and then the other side is excavated, creating a working surface that is "half open and half covered."

The collapsed road surface this time is close to the under-construction Xiaonan Street Station. It is worth noting that in May this year, the Chengdu Metro construction contractor stated that, at present, 20 of the 21 stations along the entire line have been topped out, with the remaining Xiaonan Street Station still undergoing main structure construction; mechanical and electrical construction has begun at 17 stations; 40 of the 44 tunnel sections have been holed through; shield tunneling has completed 96% of the total designed volume; track laying on the main line has been completed 42%; and track laying in the depot has been completed 100%. The station is expected to be topped out in August this year.
