On June 3,

after 70 consecutive hours of intensive work,

the south anchorage of the north navigable channel bridge of the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge

completed bottom sealing across the entire line,

one month ahead of the planned schedule.

Project Overview

The Zhanggao river crossing is located approximately 28 km downstream of the Jiangyin Bridge and about 16 km upstream of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Bridge. The project route starts from the reserved Shizhuang interchange of the Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway in Shizhuang Town, Rugao City, and ends at the Chenyang interchange of the Zhangjiagang Port-Serving Expressway, with a total length of 29.849 km. The south navigable channel bridge adopts a two-tower, two-span steel box girder suspension bridge with a main span of 2300 m, currently the world's largest-span suspension bridge under construction; the north navigable channel bridge adopts a two-tower, single-span steel box girder suspension bridge with a main span of 1208 m.

Construction Status

The south anchorage foundation of the north navigable channel bridge adopts a composite anchorage foundation structure consisting of a circular diaphragm wall with an outer diameter of 90 m and a wall thickness of 1.5 m, combined with deep foundation reinforcement and horizontal bottom sealing, making it the largest artificially improved foundation anchorage to date. This bottom sealing involved the first layer of the base slab, with a cumulative concrete pour of 10,900 cubic meters.

The anchorage pit has an excavation depth of 21.3 m

an excavation diameter of 88.5 m

and an excavation volume of approximately 130,959 cubic meters

Digital Twin System

Faced with challenges such as weak geological foundations and high risk of cracking in mass concrete, the project team adhered to innovation-driven approaches, injecting strong momentum into high-quality construction.

● Independently developed high-precision detection and efficient removal devices for sediment in ultra-deep diaphragm walls, effectively ensuring diaphragm wall construction quality;

● Adopted an intelligent ultra-high-pressure jet grouting pile construction process, driving 2,497 jet grouting piles into soil as soft as "tofu," greatly improving foundation bearing capacity;

● Jointly with research institutes and universities, carried out research on temperature control and crack prevention technology for mass concrete, reducing cracking risk and eliminating harmful cracks;

● Built six major digital management systems, including an intelligent diaphragm wall construction system, a digital twin system for deep foundation reinforcement, and intelligent temperature control for mass concrete, achieving intelligent analysis, early warning, and control throughout the construction cycle.

Shanghai Jiuzhuo integrated the digital twin system into the entire design and construction process, monitoring on-site construction in real time, capturing information to identify on-site safe construction dynamics, supervising and providing reminders for on-site safety production and construction management compliance activities, and collecting evidence or reconstructing the scene for unexpected emergencies, thereby innovating the construction project supervision model, assisting project production and civilized construction management, and achieving digital, refined, and intelligent management of the construction site.‍
