On June 15, the cross adit and the main tunnel of the inclined shaft of the Weijiashan Tunnel in Section 3 of the Yixing Railway were successfully holed through, laying a solid foundation for the smooth opening of the Yixing Railway.

The Weijiashan Tunnel has a total length of 10.73 km and is a single-tube double-track tunnel designed for a speed of 350 km/h. The maximum buried depth of the tunnel is about 1,068 m; the tunnel has a one-way downgrade with a maximum longitudinal slope of 20‰. The main line of the tunnel passes through 7 fault fracture zones, and groundwater is developed, with risks of mud and water inrush; unfavorable geological conditions such as karst, high ground temperature, and large deformation of soft rock are also present.

To achieve the smooth holing-through of the tunnel, the construction party planned ahead and took the initiative, adopting multiple measures to ensure safe and rapid progress of the project. First, the schedule milestone tasks were refined. Tasks were divided into monthly, weekly, and daily tasks, and a daily report system was used to notify daily completion status. Second, monthly progress assessments were carried out. Rewards and penalties were given according to the completion progress, creating an atmosphere of vigorous work in which everyone compares, learns, catches up, and surpasses, and mobilizing the enthusiasm and initiative of the workers. Third, the system of leadership cadres leading shifts was implemented. Project team members took turns going into the tunnel to give pre-shift speeches and conduct special quality training; at the same time, overbreak and underbreak were strictly controlled, and initial support, waterproofing and drainage, and other work were strictly managed, effectively ensuring the safe and smooth holing-through of the tunnel.
