On June 15, Wang Tongjun, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice General Manager of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway), and his delegation conducted an on-site survey at the Nantong-Ningbo High-Speed Railway project of China Railway 14th Bureau Group, inspecting the shield tunneling construction of the Suzhou East Tunnel and convening a symposium. Zhou Changjin, General Manager of China Railway 14th Bureau Group, accompanied the survey.

Wang Tongjun and his delegation went deep into the Suzhou East Tunnel construction site, listened to project briefings, entered the interior of the shield machine, and inspected the on-site application of new technologies such as the box culvert fine-tuning robot, synchronous shield jacking and segment erection, simultaneous dual-liquid grouting, and advanced geological forecasting. They fully affirmed the construction progress of the Suzhou East Tunnel and the application of intelligent construction and information-based control technologies.

At the subsequent symposium, Wang Tongjun emphasized the need to focus on the prevention and control of major risk sources during shield tunneling, carry out risk analysis and assessment in advance, and formulate and implement targeted risk control measures; to focus on improving skill levels, develop intelligent auxiliary tunneling technologies, strengthen penetrating safety management of shield tunneling teams, and take multiple measures to improve the safety and efficiency of shield tunneling; to strive to optimize and improve technical plans and quality indicators, and promote high-standard, high-quality project construction; and for relevant units to continue collaborative innovation and use advanced means to achieve precise control and intelligent construction.

At the meeting, relevant personnel held in-depth discussions on topics including improving the adaptability of shield machines for urban high-speed railway underground tunnels, safety analysis of in-tunnel disassembly of shield machines, and improving shield tunneling efficiency.

During the survey, Zhou Changjin stated that China Railway 14th Bureau Group will earnestly implement all deployment requirements of China Railway, fully leverage its advantages in large-diameter shield tunneling technology and management, strengthen control over the entire construction process, and push the level of safe, efficient, and intelligent tunnel construction to a new height, creating quality and benchmark projects in the field of railway tunnel construction.

The Suzhou East Tunnel of the newly built Nantong-Ningbo High-Speed Railway is China's urban high-speed railway tunnel with the highest construction standards and the longest mileage at a design speed of 350 km/h. With a total length of 15.57 km, it is known as the "China Urban High-Speed Railway No. 1 Tunnel." Since the super-large-diameter slurry balance shield machine "Tongyong Yuanmeng" began tunneling on April 18, it has successfully applied multiple key technologies such as "synchronous jacking and segment erection," "simultaneous dual-liquid grouting," and "advanced geological forecasting," and is currently advancing steadily.

Relevant heads of departments of China Railway, Shanghai Railway Group, and Hu-Hang Railway Company; Liu Qingmin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Labor Union of China Railway 14th Bureau Group; and relevant heads of the design unit, supervision unit, as well as the East China Regional Headquarters and the Large-Diameter Shield Company of China Railway 14th Bureau Group, participated in the event.
