"Official breakthrough!" On the morning of June 16, as the last tunnel working face was successfully breached, the Daxu Tunnel on Section 4 of the Chaohu–Ma'anshan Intercity Railway, constructed by China Railway No. 4 Engineering Group, was successfully holed through, marking major progress in the construction of the Chaohu–Ma'anshan Intercity Railway and laying a solid foundation for subsequent construction work.

The Daxu Tunnel on the Chaohu–Ma'anshan Intercity Railway has a total length of 889 meters, including a designed 721 meters of blind tunnel (mined section) and 168 meters of open-cut tunnel (cut-and-cover section), excavated as a single-tube, one-direction drive. The main works include portal works, open-cut tunnel works, tunnel body excavation, advance support, surface grouting, primary support, secondary lining, and spoil ground protection. The 60-meter portal accounts for 6.7% (both inlet and outlet are 30-meter inclined-cut portals with buffer structures), the 108-meter open-cut section accounts for 12.1%, the 506 meters of Grade V surrounding rock in the blind tunnel accounts for 56.9%, and the 215 meters of Grade IV surrounding rock accounts for 24.2%.

Since entering main tunnel construction on March 17, 2023, in response to poor mountain surrounding rock, complex geology, and high-standard construction process requirements, the First Sub-division of Section 4 of the Chaohu–Ma'anshan Intercity Railway of China Railway No. 4 Engineering Group has organized construction scientifically, optimized construction techniques, and strictly followed the principles of "weak blasting, short advance, strong support, frequent measurement, and timely secondary lining" in organizing construction. It has persisted in monitoring and measurement and advanced geological forecasting, managed explosives properly, and ensured safe and orderly construction progress.

The Chaohu–Ma'anshan Intercity Railway is an important component of the Hefei–Shanghai section of the Shanghai–Wuhan–Chengdu rapid corridor within the national "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed rail network, and is of great significance for improving the regional high-speed railway network layout and promoting the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.
