After 1,078 days and nights of unremitting effort, on June 13 the Changqing Tunnel, a controlling project of the Shenyang-Baihe High-Speed Railway built by China Railway 23rd Bureau Group, was successfully holed through.

The Changqing Tunnel is located in Jiangyuan District, Baishan City, Jilin Province, with a total length of about 11,316 meters. It is a single-tube, double-track tunnel, and its maximum excavation cross-section reaches 224 square meters, the largest of the entire Shenyang-Baihe High-Speed Railway line. The tunnel lies in a mountainous area with complex geological structures and abundant groundwater, and contains unfavorable geology such as karst and swelling rock, making construction difficult and safety risks high.

According to reports, during construction the project team innovatively improved the standardized construction techniques and methods for large-cross-section tunnels of high-speed railways in severe cold regions, effectively improving construction quality. At the same time, they actively applied advanced geological forecasting, surrounding rock monitoring and measurement, and intelligent monitoring and measurement systems such as enhanced terminal safety control, ensuring high-quality and efficient tunneling.

The Shenyang-Baihe High-Speed Railway is located in northeastern Liaoning Province and southeastern Jilin Province. It is an important part of the Northeast Eastern Fast Railway Corridor in the national medium- and long-term railway network plan, and is also a major high-speed railway construction project in Northeast China during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. After the Shenyang-Baihe High-Speed Railway is completed and opened to traffic, high-speed EMU trains will run directly to the foot of Changbai Mountain, the shortest travel time from Beijing to Changbai Mountain will be reduced to less than 4 hours, and the shortest travel time from Shenyang to Changbai Mountain will be reduced to about 1.5 hours.
