On June 16, with the completion of blasting and excavation of the final section of rock mass, the Shangshan Tunnel, a key control project of the Jining-Datong-Yuanping High-Speed Railway (Jidayuan High-Speed Railway) located in Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, was successfully holed through, marking the full completion of all tunnels on the Jidayuan High-Speed Railway.

The Jidayuan High-Speed Railway is a key construction project of the national 14th Five-Year Plan and an important component of the Hohhot-Nanning Corridor in the "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network under the national medium- and long-term railway network plan. The railway starts from Ulanqab Station in the north, passes through Datong City and Xinzhou City in Shanxi Province, and connects to Yuanping West Station, with a total length of approximately 270 kilometers of newly built line and a design speed of 250 kilometers per hour.

After the Jidayuan High-Speed Railway is completed and opened to traffic, it will form a fast railway passenger corridor between Taiyuan, Datong and Hohhot, shortening the railway travel time between Hohhot and Taiyuan from the current 5 hours to more than 2 hours, which also means that the railways in central and western Inner Mongolia will be formally integrated into the national high-speed railway network.
