"Xinjiang has many opportunities, waiting for the right investors to discover them." This is the observation of Hendrik Sibrand Elbrus, Operations Director of the Dutch company Elbrus International Transport.

Where are the opportunities? Walking into the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe District), the answer can be glimpsed from two foreign enterprises.

Loaded with PVC pellets, auto parts and other goods from the warehouse, a freight truck of Elbrus Transport (Xinjiang) Co., Ltd. slowly drove out of the Urumqi International Land Port Area, bound for Europe. In 2009, this multinational company moved its China headquarters from Shanghai to Urumqi, attracted by the policy opportunities of China's Western Development and Xinjiang's location advantage as a golden corridor between Asia and Europe. "Xinjiang's geographical position connecting East and West provides enormous convenience for cross-border road freight," said Hendrik Sibrand Elbrus with confidence. "Our goal is to shorten the time for delivering goods from customers in eastern China to Europe to within 10 days."

Another foreign investor also attracted by Xinjiang's location advantage is Krasik Paul, head of Urumqi Slavic Food Sales Co., Ltd. "Xinjiang borders Kazakhstan, which is an advantage. Our frozen food exports to China are shipped from Belarus, transit through Kazakhstan, and are customs-cleared upon arrival in Xinjiang, China, then sent to partners in different Chinese cities."

In January this year, with the help of the Xinjiang Central Asia Interconnection (International) Incubator (referred to as Central Asia Interconnection), Krasik Paul's company successfully registered in the Urumqi area of the Xinjiang Pilot Free Trade Zone. Translation, customs declaration, logistics negotiations... In the one-stop service hall of the Foreign-Invested Enterprise Service Center in the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe District), Central Asia Interconnection, with its "nanny-style service," adopts a service model of "one-stop processing," "assisted handling and agency," and "full-effort resolution," precisely solving a series of difficulties and demands of foreign enterprises coming to Xinjiang in work, entrepreneurship, visas, daily life and more, becoming a bridge between enterprises and the government. At present, it has helped 14 foreign enterprises successfully establish themselves in the Urumqi area of the Xinjiang Pilot Free Trade Zone.

In recent years, with the deepening of the country's opening up to the West and the construction of the core area of the "Belt and Road," Xinjiang has become an important gateway for China's opening up to the West. With the deepening of extensive cooperation with neighboring countries in various fields, Xinjiang's "circle of friends" in the economic and trade field is now growing larger and larger.

Regarding the Xinjiang Pilot Free Trade Zone, inaugurated in November last year, Dilxat Mamat, Chief Representative for China of the Dutch company Elbrus International Transport, is full of expectations: "The preferential policies of the free trade zone will attract more import and export goods to gather here, providing more cargo sources for road transport."

Currently, Elbrus has more than 600 trucks, each capable of carrying 80-90 cubic meters of cargo, with about 10-15 trucks departing daily for Central Asia and Europe. Dilxat said the company plans to invest in an additional 30-40 trucks this year and complete the deployment of 100 trucks' capacity within three years.

In addition to its superior geographical location and improved business environment, what also invigorates Xinjiang's economy and trade and investment is the development dividend brought by the "Belt and Road" policy coordination and infrastructure connectivity.

"Since the 'Belt and Road' Initiative was proposed, the improvement of infrastructure and the strengthening of cooperation among different countries have enhanced our transport efficiency. We have also witnessed firsthand the year-on-year growth of trade and cargo volume along the Silk Road Economic Belt," said Hendrik Sibrand Elbrus.

The past stretches back a thousand years. The sound of camel bells along the ancient Silk Road once witnessed the gathering of merchants from East and West here. Today is even more splendid. The ever-increasing opportunities on this hot land of Xinjiang are opening their arms to welcome more Chinese and foreign investors.
