On June 6, the right-line double-shield TBM "China Railway No. 288" for the Balang Mountain Tunnel of the DSZH bid section of the Dujiangyan–Siguniang Mountain Mountain Rail Transit Project, constructed by Sichuan Chuanjiao Road & Bridge Co., Ltd. and provided with construction technical services by China Railway Engineering Services (CREG Services), was successfully launched, marking that the Balang Mountain Tunnel has entered the stage of simultaneous excavation of the left and right lines.

The right line of the Balang Mountain Tunnel has a total length of 13,433 meters, a minimum turning radius of 250 meters, a gradient of 40‰, and a maximum burial depth of 1,394 meters, making it a typical long, large and deep tunnel. To overcome the many adverse geological difficulties of this tunnel, the double-shield TBM "China Railway No. 288", remanufactured and designed by CREG Services, came into being.

The "China Railway No. 288" has an excavation diameter of 6.5 meters, an overall length of 170 meters, an overall weight of about 1,100 tons, a maximum thrust of 25,860 kN, and a maximum tunneling speed of 120 mm/min. This TBM has the advantages of strong functional configuration, fast tunneling speed, excellent construction quality and high safety performance. Under normal conditions, its tunneling efficiency is about 12 times higher than that of traditional drill-and-blast construction, and it saves about 50% of manpower.

To ensure the smooth launch of the TBM, the project department carried out overall planning and systematic review, held several special meetings, carefully analyzed the key and difficult points and construction risks of the project, formulated relevant plans, optimized personnel allocation and process coordination, further improved the efficiency of TBM installation and commissioning, and successfully achieved the TBM launch target.

As the Balang Mountain Tunnel project is a controlling works of the entire Dujiangyan–Siguniang Mountain Mountain Rail Transit Project, the company will adhere to the corporate purpose of "professional services, creating value", overcome the numerous difficulties of TBM construction in the western Sichuan plateau region, and strive to build it into a high-quality mountain tunnel project of CREG Services.
