On June 8, with the final blast, the Datanggou Tunnel of the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway was successfully holed through. This is the first tunnel over one kilometer in length to be completed along the entire Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway, marking that tunnel construction along the whole line has entered a critical stage.

The Datanggou Tunnel is located within Xinsheng Subdistrict, Zhongxian County, Chongqing. It is a single-tube, double-track tunnel with a total length of 1,355 meters. Construction of the tunnel began in May 2023 using a single-head excavation method. The tunnel lies among steep mountain slopes, and both its entrance and exit are shallow-buried sections. The tunnel passes beneath the existing G50 Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway. The surrounding rock of the tunnel body consists mainly of mudstone intercalated with sandstone and sandstone. Affected by unfavorable geological conditions, construction is difficult and safety risks are relatively high. During construction, the contractor strictly followed relevant technical specifications and adopted technical measures such as mechanical excavation to ensure safe and efficient tunnel construction.

It is understood that the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway is an important component of the Baotou (Yinchuan)-Haikou and Beijing-Kunming corridors, which are major channels of the national "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network, and is also an important component of the auxiliary corridor along the Yangtze River high-speed railway. The project involves 251 kilometers of newly built main line, with a designed operating speed of 350 kilometers per hour. After the Chongqing-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway is completed and opened to traffic, the railway travel time from downtown Chongqing to Wanzhou will be shortened to less than one hour. Together with the Chongqing-Xi'an and Zhengzhou-Wanzhou high-speed railways, it will form a high-standard Beijing-Kunming corridor with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour along the entire line, which is of great significance for accelerating the construction of the high-speed railway network in western China and advancing the development of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.
