On June 3, the Dajiaoshan Tunnel in the Nansha Bay area of Guangzhou was successfully holed through. According to reports, this is Guangzhou's first extra-large cross-section tunnel constructed using the mining method within a nationally protected key cultural relics control zone.

Known as the "Golden Tunnel," the Dajiaoshan Tunnel is managed for construction by the Guangzhou Nansha District Construction Center and constructed by the China Railway Tunnel Group. The tunnel is located west of Guangzhou's Nansha Tianhou Palace and the Dajiaoshan Fort, running north-south through Dajiaoshan, connecting Gangqian Avenue to the north and Huanshi Avenue and Haibin Road to the south. Previously, due to the natural barrier of Dajiaoshan, Huanshi Avenue South, Haibin Road and Gangqian Avenue South had never been truly connected, hindering regional economic development.

Construction of the Dajiaoshan Tunnel officially began in May 2023. In addition to the Dajiaoshan Fort, a nationally protected key cultural relic site, the surroundings of the Dajiaoshan Tunnel also include scenic areas, hotels, schools and research bases. During construction, the project team ensured the safety of the Dajiaoshan Fort through preliminary simulation calculations of blasting impacts, subsequent optimization of controlled blasting schemes, and the use of advanced equipment such as fully automatic vibration monitors.

According to reports, the project team, with large equipment such as multifunctional advanced geological drilling rigs and shotcrete manipulators as the mainstay, and advanced intelligent technologies and equipment such as the BIM system, 3D cross-section scanners and intelligent comprehensive tunnel inspection vehicles as key tools, supplemented by small equipment such as waterstop fixing clamps, overcame various adverse effects, effectively broke through construction "bottlenecks," and achieved tunnel holing-through five months ahead of schedule.

At present, both the east and west tubes of the Dajiaoshan Tunnel have been fully holed through. In the future, the Dajiaoshan Tunnel will link the Nansha Passenger Port, Nansha International Cruise Terminal, Tianhou Palace and Nansha Garden Hotel, becoming one of the important passages connecting Gangqian Avenue and Huanshi Avenue.
