On June 3, after 70 consecutive hours of intensive work, the south anchorage of the north channel bridge of the Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang-Rugao Yangtze River Bridge in Jiangsu, constructed by CCCC Road & Bridge Construction Co., Ltd., completed its base sealing across the entire line, one month ahead of the planned schedule.
The Zhangjiagang-Jingjiang-Rugao Yangtze River Bridge spans the main channel of the Yangtze River, connecting Zhangjiagang, Jingjiang, and Rugao in Jiangsu, with a total length of approximately 29.8 kilometers, of which the river-crossing section is 7.859 kilometers long. It features a south channel bridge with a main span of 2,300 meters and a north channel bridge with a main span of 1,208 meters, and upon completion will become the world's largest span bridge group.

The anchorage, serving as the "heavy counterweight" that "plants the horse stance firmly" for a suspension bridge, plays the role of anchoring the entire main cable, making its construction critically important. The south anchorage foundation of the north channel bridge adopts a composite anchorage foundation structure consisting of a circular diaphragm wall with an outer diameter of 90 meters and a wall thickness of 1.5 meters, combined with deep foundation reinforcement and horizontal base sealing, making it the largest artificially improved foundation anchorage currently in existence. The base sealing this time was for the first layer of the bottom slab, with a cumulative concrete pour of 10,900 cubic meters. Facing challenges such as weak geological foundations and high risk of cracking in mass concrete, the builders inserted and drove 2,497 jet grouting piles into mud as soft as "tofu," substantially improving the bearing capacity of the foundation.
Upon completion, the bridge will be of great significance for implementing the national strategies of integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region and development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, optimizing the layout of river-crossing passages along the Yangtze River mainline, improving the regional road network layout, promoting integrated cross-river development, and building a high-level Yangtze River city cluster.
