On June 3, the Guangzhou Dajiaoshan Tunnel, constructed by the China Railway Tunnel Group, was holed through, marking a phased victory for Guangzhou's first extra-large cross-section tunnel built using the mining method within a national key cultural relics protection zone, and laying the foundation for its upcoming opening to traffic.

The Dajiaoshan Tunnel is located west of Guangzhou Tianhou Palace and the Dajiaoshan Fort, running north-south through Dajiaoshan. The Nansha Bay area is Guangzhou's gateway to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the city's maritime portal; however, the natural barrier of Dajiaoshan has long prevented the southern section of Huanshi Avenue, Haibin Road and the southern section of Gangqian Avenue in the skeleton road network from being truly connected.

On May 22, 2023, construction of the Dajiaoshan Tunnel officially began. The project route is 1.95 kilometers long and designed as a dual-direction, six-lane roadway. To ensure the safety of the cultural relics, the construction team guaranteed the safety of the *** cultural relic, the Dajiao Fort, through preliminary blasting impact simulation calculations, subsequent optimization of the controlled blasting scheme, and the use of advanced equipment such as fully automatic vibration monitors.
