As the first late Shang dynasty capital site in China's history that is documented in written records and confirmed by archaeological excavation, among the many archaeological discoveries at Yinxu, oracle bone inscriptions are the most important. Among the known four major ancient writing systems of the world, only the Chinese ancient writing system, represented by the Yinxu oracle bone inscriptions, has endured through time and continues to this day. Concerned about cultural protection, inheritance and innovative development, in October 2022, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out during an inspection of the Yinxu site that he had long yearned to visit Yinxu, and that this visit was intended to learn more deeply about and understand Chinese civilization, make the past serve the present, and provide reference for better building a modern civilization of the Chinese nation.

At the Symposium on Cultural Inheritance and Development held in June 2023, General Secretary Xi Jinping profoundly expounded on the five prominent characteristics of Chinese civilization, systematically explained the great significance of the "two integrations," especially the "second integration," and proposed the new cultural mission of the new era: "continuing to promote cultural prosperity, build a strong cultural nation, and build a modern civilization of the Chinese nation from a new starting point."
