On May 24, drilling of the bridge pile foundations for the Dongshan Sea-Crossing Grand Bridge on the Fujian section of the Zhangzhou-Shantou High-Speed Railway began across the entire line.
At noon that day, after one hour of construction, the first borehole—with a diameter of 1 meter and a pile foundation depth of 40 meters—was successfully completed and met standards, marking the start of construction on the 9.52-kilometer Dongshan section, a high-speed railway with two platforms and four tracks.
The Dongshan Sea-Crossing Grand Bridge on the Fujian section of the Zhangzhou-Shantou High-Speed Railway has a total length of 20.262 kilometers. The Dongshan section now under construction requires drilling 2,623 pile foundations; the construction geology is complex, and most of the pile foundations are offshore.
"The Dongshan Sea-Crossing Grand Bridge crosses the Bachimen sea area, including aquaculture zones, underground boulders, and tidal flat areas, among others. The geological conditions are complex, and drilling through grouting takes about 8 hours. We use rotary drilling rigs for construction to complete the task with both quality and quantity guaranteed."
It is understood that the Zhangzhou-Shantou High-Speed Railway is an important section of the Ningbo-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, a coastal high-speed rail corridor planned by the state, with a total length of 176 kilometers.
Among them, the Fujian section is 127.2 kilometers long and the Guangdong section is 48.8 kilometers long, with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It has seven stations: Zhangzhou, Zhangpu, Dongshan Island, Zhao'an South, Raoping South, Shantou East (reserved), and Shantou. Among them, Zhangzhou, Zhangpu, and Shantou are existing stations, while the rest are newly built stations. The construction period is 4.5 years, and the line is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in the second half of 2028.
After the Zhangzhou-Shantou High-Speed Railway is completed, it will open up a key node in the high-speed railway passenger corridor along the southeast coast and become the main channel for exchanges between the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, and the southwest region and the southeast coastal region.
