Huoshan Tunnel on the Yanjiang Expressway

New progress has been made in the construction of the Yanjiang Expressway (Yibin-Panzhihua Expressway). Construction of the Huoshan Tunnel in the Huili section of the Yanjiang Expressway in Liangshan Prefecture is proceeding in an orderly manner and is expected to break through in October this year, and the Huili-Panzhihua section is expected to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of December this year.

The Huoshan Tunnel is one of the "two bridges and two tunnels" control projects of the Ningnan-Panzhihua section of the Yanjiang Expressway. It is an extra-long twin-bore bidirectional tunnel, with a left bore 7,145 meters long and a right bore 7,197 meters long. The entrance end is located in Baiji Village, Xiaoheiqing Town, Huili City, and the exit end is located in Tazha Village, Xinjiu Township, Yanbian County, connecting Panzhihua and Huili. Among them, at the entrance end the left line is 3,485 meters long and the right line is 3,522 meters long; at the exit end the left line is 3,660 meters long and the right line is 3,675 meters long. The shaft is 292.5 meters long. The tunnel is equipped with 7 emergency parking bays, 7 vehicular cross passages, 8 pedestrian cross passages, 1 in-tunnel substation, 1 smoke exhaust outlet, and 1 traffic turnaround area.

According to reports, the Huoshan Tunnel project is carrying out reverse-slope construction at the entrance, and tunnel construction is proceeding in an orderly manner in strict accordance with the production philosophy of "high standards, strict requirements, zero tolerance." At present, the Huili section of the Huoshan Tunnel has been fully holed through; in the Panzhihua section, 940 meters remain in the right bore and 1,870 meters remain in the left bore. The right bore is expected to break through by the end of September and the left bore by the end of October, and the Panzhihua-Huili section is expected to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of the year.

The Huoshan Tunnel project connects Huili City and Panzhihua City and plays a role in the Panxi region's highway network by linking the area internally and externally, forming an east-west external connection corridor for the prefecture and the city. Once the project is completed, it will give play to the benefits of the expressway network, realize the formation of a regional expressway "network," promote interconnection between Huili City and surrounding areas, and expand Huili's space for external development.
