Hefei, May 20 (Xinhua) — Tiandu Peak, one of the three main peaks of Mount Huangshan in Anhui Province, ended its "rotational rest" and reopened to the public on the 20th.

Tiandu Peak is located in the southeast of Mount Huangshan and, together with Guangmingding (Bright Summit) and Lianhua Peak (Lotus Peak), is known as one of the three main peaks of Mount Huangshan, with an elevation of 1,829.2 meters. The peak has steep slopes and treacherous paths, resembling a "stairway to heaven," and was regarded by the ancients as "the celestial capital where the immortals reside," hence its name.

As an adventure-experience attraction, Tiandu Peak's climbing trail ascends directly along the precipitous cliffs on the peak's face, with the steepest section approaching 85 degrees. Attractions on the peak such as Jiyubei (Crucian Carp Back), Shidanshi (Courage-Testing Rock), Laohuzui (Tiger's Mouth), Wanrenbi (Ten-Thousand-Ren Cliff), and Yixiantian (A Single Thread of Sky) are extremely precipitous, making the climb highly challenging.

Mount Huangshan is a protected natural area that holds three prestigious titles in one: UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage, World Geopark, and World Biosphere Reserve. It attracts millions of tourists from home and abroad each year for sightseeing and vacations. More than 40 years ago, Mount Huangshan pioneered the "closed rotational rest" system for scenic spots.

According to relevant regulations, Tiandu Peak has been closed for rotational rest since December 2018. Testing has shown that the average growth indicators of fixed sample plants of five representative species in the current Tiandu Peak area — Huangshan pine, Huangshan rhododendron, lantern tree, southern diervilla, and Lindera obtusiloba — as well as the herbaceous layer coverage indicators of 10 fixed sample plots, have all reached the threshold values for reopening, meeting the opening standards.

Before reopening, the Mount Huangshan Scenic Area administration, together with relevant research institutions, scientifically verified the carrying capacity of the Tiandu Peak attraction. To ensure tourism safety and enhance tourist comfort and experience, professional geological survey institutions were organized to patrol and address geological hazards, promptly repair infrastructure such as trails, viewing platforms, and safety railings, prune and clear dead trees and obstructing branches along both sides of the trails, and improve supporting facilities such as public toilets and signage.

At the same time, departments of landscaping, geology, and meteorology were organized to conduct comprehensive inspections. The results show that the overall geological hazard situation is relatively stable, the lightning protection facilities on the peak meet safety regulations, and ecological recovery is in good condition.
